Eastern Illinois University is preparing to launch a talent development graduate degree program, and Caveo Learning has played a key role in helping EIU with curriculum development.

Caveo hosted 15 experts chosen from all corners of the talent development field for a two-day curriculum development workshop in an effort to better understand the skills and talen development competencies necessary for success in the industry, including instructional design, training facilitation, eLearning, performance management, performance improvement, and organizational development.

Caveo's role in helping EIU develop its graduate degree program in L&D is in keeping with its dedication to improving the wider talent development profession. In addition to supporting university programs like EIU, Caveo is a proud Annual Sponsor of the Association for Talent Development, Chicagoland Chapter (ATDChi), and is actively engaged with professional standards organizations like the Center for Talent Reporting and the Executive Learning Exchange.

As a result of the curriculum development workshop at Caveo, EIU professors were able to identify the specific talent development competencies and skills needed to successfully perform within the field. The new program's curriculum will reflect the conclusions from the Caveo-hosted occupational analysis, with course titles and content reflecting the skills required for each identified general area of competence.

"The surprise for the workshop was the departure from the ATD Competency Model," said Luke Steinke, associate professor and program coordinator in EIU's Organizational and Professional Development Department. "Obviously, the focus was not on replicating the ATD competency model, but on identifying the specific skills and competencies of expert workers within the field of talent development."

The Master of Science program, the name of which has not yet been finalized, is anticipated to debut in Fall 2016. EIU already offers an undergraduate degree in Organizational and Professional Development with a concentration in Training and Development. That EIU Training & Development program and its content may be reevaluated and improved based on the curriculum development workshop at Caveo Learning.
