Wawa, Caveo Learning Team Up for Red Cross Volunteer Training

red_cross_houseLearning professionals with Caveo Learning recently partnered with the corporate training team from convenience retail chain Wawa Inc. to deliver a special training workshop to benefit the volunteers of the American Red Cross of Eastern Pennsylvania.

The December session, “Being of Service,” was designed and developed by Caveo and delivered in conjunction with Wawa facilitators. It taught Red Cross volunteers strategies and tools for comforting victims of tragedies, as well as how to cope with their own stress and anxiety. Most of the 75 workshop attendees volunteer at the Red Cross House of Philadelphia, which provides food, shelter, and services to families displaced by disaster.Retired Judge Renée Cardwell Hughes, CEO of the American Red Cross of Eastern Pennsylvania, expressed gratitude to the Caveo and Wawa learning teams for donating their time to this important training program. “Our team was so appreciative of the seminar and felt that it was very beneficial,” Cardwell Hughes said. “I will never be able to thank you all enough for your dedication, creativity, and friendship. I do look forward to working with you all again.”

The volunteer training workshop was a valued learning experience for the facilitators as well.

red_cross_volunteer_training“We were deeply humbled to deliver the workshop and make a difference with the dedicated volunteers of the American Red Cross,” said Joseph Tota, vice president of strategic services for Caveo. “Each day, our training organizations are committed and passionate about training and educating others so they can be their best in the moments that matter. While our intent was to help train the volunteers of the Red Cross, the Wawa and Caveo teams left the workshop inspired by the Red Cross volunteers, who taught us how we can be our best serving others.”

The team from Wawa University, the company’s corporate education arm, concurred.

“For more than 20 years, Wawa has been proud to support the American Red Cross, so it was truly humbling to be able to partner with Caveo to facilitate this meaningful session, sharing our learnings and training with many wonderful community members who want to be of service,” said Stefanie Sharpless of Wawa University.
